Wayne State University received a Michigan Breastfeeding-Friendly Gold Workplace Award on Tuesday, September 18 in recognition of WSU’s evidence-based breastfeeding support for students, faculty, and staff. The University recognizes the benefits that breastfeeding provides to employers, employees, their families, and communities as the foundation of health. Employers who support breastfeeding employees enjoy a 3-to-1 return on investment through greater employee retention, increased productivity, lower healthcare costs, and fewer sick days. The Michigan Breastfeeding Network congratulates Wayne State University on their Gold Award and its dedication to advancing breastfeeding outcomes on campus! Institutions of higher education are key to creating a breastfeeding-friendly Michigan based on their ability to reach a large cross-section of the population. Wayne State University values breastfeeding, establishing permanent lactation spaces on campus, providing better amenities for breastfeeding mothers, and sharing the importance of breastfeeding with their employees. WSU students, faculty, and staff along with community families and breastfeeding supporters were present at the celebration.
