TrapChat is available to the Michigan Breastfeeding Network’s network of partners and local breastfeeding supporters through our partnership with YOLO Lactation and Doula Services. TrapChat is held live and always accessible on the YOLO Facebook Page.
Grounding Our Efforts
Mission: TrapChat provides trusted birth, breastfeeding, and parenting information from sources that our community relates to as we showcase each panelist’s expertise from a lens of authenticity, showing up as our knowledgeable, trusted selves
Overview/Description: TrapChat was sparked during the COVID-19 pandemic to build an authentic space for families and birthing parents to tune in, connect, and contribute, based on their own comfort level. TrapChat is facilitated by YOLO Lactation and Doula Services in Flint. YOLO develops the topics and then connects with panelists who meet the criteria of being relatable, honest, and able to talk about the subject matter. Our commitment is to provide something of value regardless of the topic and for a wide range of audience members. Topics range from fatherhood, doulas, miscarriage, COVID, formula shortage, and so on. We consistently use this space to:
- Hold honest conversations without the filter and without the fluff for viewers to get to know the real version of whoever is in front of them
- Help viewers with relationships, birthing, parenting, fatherhood, etc.
- Serve viewers as an educational resource – like during the formula shortage and COVID – so you can trust the information you’re getting in a way that is relatable and made for the viewer
Leadership and Partners
We are cultivating an online community that is real, connected, and driven by the community.
- TrapChat is facilitated by YOLO Lactation and Doula Services founder, Shonte’ Terhune-Smith, BS, IBCLC, BD, CLS.
- Panelists are vetted by YOLO for being real, authentic, and willing to hold a conversation of value that helps families to better themselves and build community
- Audience members/participants are birthing parents, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, and breastfeeding supporters from within Flint, across Michigan, and nationally
- Michigan Breastfeeding Network serves as a fund development and implementation partner, fiscal sponsor, and promoter
